Compliance is changing, in two ways at once, and both are still underway.

The obligations keep growing. Legal adherence remains mandatory, and alongside it organizations now carry safety and quality commitments beyond what regulation requires, security expectations written into customer contracts, public pledges on environmental and social performance, and responsible AI. More of these are stated as outcomes rather than rules, and that direction is not reversing.

The means of meeting them are changing too. Digital engineering has moved compliance past paper and periodic review toward real-time, model-driven systems. Systems that keep an organization between the lines, ahead of risk, and on-mission, continuously rather than at the next audit.
